Robert Abrams       Chairman and CEO

As SiO2 Medical Products, Inc. Chairman, Mr. Abrams ensures that the plasma-coated products developed meet the needs of the market. Mr. Abrams works closely with R&D and Marketing so that the technical objectives and the market objectives for the project are aligned. Mr. Abrams works with customers and marketing resources to assess the economic value for proposed products.

Ken Kelly       Chief Operating Officer

As the Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Kelly has responsibility for directing overall company efforts in medical molding manufacturing operations and activities. He brings over 20 years of manufacturing management experience leading teams in Operations, Production, Quality, Engineering and Sales and Marketing in a variety of industries. Mr. Kelly has worked for contract manufacturers overseeing component development and operations on medical devices for several medical OEMs. He has direct experience in the areas of high performance polymers (Fluoropolymers, Peeks, and custom blends), plastic part design, automation, vision, sealing, and advance tooling approaches. Mr. Kelly has a degree in Plastics Engineering Technology from the Shawnee State University, and an MBA from Xavier University.

Peter Sagona       Senior Vice President, Applications Development

As Senior Vice President, Mr. Sagona is responsible for program management, including overall project coordination of deliverables and timelines. This involves working closely with a wide range of technical disciplines within the customer's organization as well as suppliers of product filling and secondary packaging equipment. He also heads up an engineering group responsible for developing custom primary containers and devices. Prior to joining SMP, Mr. Sagona spent eleven years with CV Holdings LLC, and seven years at SmithKline Beecham Clinical Laboratories managing automation development projects. Mr. Sagona has an MS in Engineering Management from Drexel University, a BSE in Biomedical Engineering, and is an inventor of 10 US patents.

Brian Maurer      Senior Vice President, Advanced Bioscience Labware and Consumables

Mr. Maurer currently serves as Senior Vice President, focused on commercial development of innovative solutions which utilize SMP’s novel combination of plastic and coating technologies. More specifically, he is focused on commercializing new product solutions for drug discovery applications. Current laboratory markets of emphasis include microplate, micro-centrifuge tube, pipette tips, and chromatography vial applications for drug screening and biological assays. Prior to joining SMP, Mr. Maurer worked in a variety of Senior Leadership positions at the Dow Chemical Company for 31 years.  Much of his Dow career was focused on developing and commercializing new polymer technologies in a wide range of markets including automotive, pharmaceutical, personal care, food, electrical, and telecommunication applications.  Beyond his application development roles at Dow, Mr. Maurer also served as Vice President of the Union Carbide Corporation, Technology Director of the Nippon Unicar joint venture between Dow and Exxon, and Chairman of the Chemistry Council of New Jersey. Mr. Maurer is a graduate of Central Michigan University (BS Chemistry) and has completed executive MBA training at Thunderbird University in Glendale, AZ as well as IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Christopher Weikart       Chief Scientist

As Chief Scientist, Dr. Weikart is responsible for management of both internal and external research and technology initiatives, including collaborative studies at domestic and international universities, customers and research organizations. He has oversight to the development of new technologies to fill the product pipeline with novel, advantaged products and identify innovative solutions to industry problems. Dr. Weikart works closely with the Scientific Advisory Board and technical consultants for launching new technical initiatives and showcasing the technical advantages of the existing product portfolio. He works closely with the intellectual property department to provide scientific support for patent filings and trade secret identification. He is the technical ambassador and spokesman at conferences, customers, and regulatory bodies. Prior to joining SiO2 Medical Products, Inc., he served for eleven years as R&D Manager for the Dow Energy Materials business and in various roles in Central Research at The Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan. He worked in Dow Central Research on a broad spectrum of applications applying interfacial science, thin film and coating technologies for new product development and licensing opportunities. Dr. Weikart earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Six Sigma Black Belt at The Dow Chemical Company.

Jaimin B. Shah       Senior Vice President and General Counsel

Mr. Shah joined SMP in 2016 as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. He is responsible for all legal matters at SMP, working in conjunction with the Executive Management Team and the Scientific Advisory Board. He joins SMP from Unilife Corporation, where he held roles of increasing responsibility and most recently as VP and Associate General Counsel. At Unilife, Mr. Shah negotiated and drafted numerous commercial agreements with major pharmaceutical customers – including long-term development and supply agreements for a broad range of parenteral drug delivery devices. He also established Unilife's I.P. strategy and managed the intellectual property portfolio, growing it from ~20 worldwide patents to >200 worldwide patents in 4 years. Additionally, Mr. Shah supported and led other legal matters - including litigation, corporate securities, quality/regulatory, employment, real estate, and other general legal issues. Prior to joining Unilife, he was with a Philadelphia area law firm where he represented clients in the chemical, medical device, pharmaceutical, mechanical, and business method areas on commercial and IP matters. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Shah was an engineer with a Fortune 500 company in the Industrial Gases & Chemicals Industry. He earned a B.S. degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Chemical Engineering, with additional coursework in Biomedical Engineering. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law and his M.B.A. from the University of Maryland R.H. Smith School of Business.


Holger Krenz       Senior Applications Scientist

Mr. Krenz is responsible for technical support with pharmaceutical customers in Europe. Prior joining SMP, he served 9 years at Boehringer Ingelheim microParts in the position of Project Manager, responsible for the development and scale-up of inhalation products. He has held sales and marketing positions at RSA Cutting Systems and MeadWestvaco Calmar. Mr. Krenz received a degree from the University of Dortmund in Applied Informatics/Mechanical Engineering and a degree in from the University of Kassel in Biology.

Ralf Kibele       Technical Service and Alliance Management

Mr. Kibele joined SiO2 Medical Products, Inc. in 2015 after working with Mr. Abrams at CSP Technologies, Inc. since 2009. He is responsible for program management and supporting development, automation, and product implementation at customer sites and strategic alliance management with our core investment partners. Prior to CSP, Mr. Kibele worked as a Plant Manager and Head of Production at Sanipharma GmbH in Ottobrunn, Germany, and as a Plant Manager for Finished Dosage Forms/Supply Chain Management at Hexal AG/Sandoz Production Center in Holzkirchen, Germany. Mr. Kibele has a Graduate Engineer in Chemistry from the University of Applied Sciences Isny, Germany, an M.B.A. from Danube-University in Krems, Austria, and is a European Master Logistician.

Joseph Rogers       Senior Director of Product Development

Mr. Rogers transitioned to SiO2 Medical Products, Inc. in 2011 after joining CV Holdings LLC in 2003. He is currently the Senior Director of Product Development, responsible for directing development activities and program management for parenteral products. In this role he coordinates internal and external resources. Mr. Rogers is also responsible for working with customers to identify requirements and develop custom products using SMP innovative technologies and providing application support to customers. Before joining SiO2 Medical Products, Inc. and CV Holdings LLC, he held similar positions at Elan Pharmaceuticals and i-STAT Corporation. Mr. Rogers has a Mechanical Engineering degree from Lafayette College. He has several patents for innovative product designs.

Brian Fitzpatrick       Director of Product Development

Mr. Fitzpatrick is responsible for coordinating the product specification documents for parenteral packages. He joined CSP Technologies, Inc. after gaining medical device experience with Johnson & Johnson Orthopedics, Power Medical Innovations and Synthes. He has over 25 years’ experience designing and developing products for medical device and chemical industries and holds an M.S. in Plastics Engineering from the University of Lowell.


Robert Pangborn      Former Head of Dow Chemical R&D

Member of the Board of Directors of SiO2 Medical Products, Inc. and the former head of Dow Chemical's central R&D department, Dr. Pangborn is responsible for assembling the R&D project team. He assesses R&D skill sets needed and staffs the project with the best people in their relevant fields. He meets regularly with the principal scientists and provides technical guidance to the project. Dr. Pangborn holds a PhD in Physics from Dartmouth University, as well as, a PMD from Harvard University.

Robert Langer       Professor, MIT

Dr. Langer is the David H. Koch Institute Professor at MIT. He served as a member of the United States Food and Drug Administration's SCIENCE Board, the FDA's highest advisory board, from 1995-2002 and as its Chairman from 1999-2002. Dr. Langer consults with SiO2 Medical Products, Inc. on the requirements of emerging injectable drug compounds and ensures the compatibility of SiO2 Medical Products plasma-coated, pre-filled syringe products. He also reviews SiO2 Medical Products key patent filings on the plasma coating system. Dr. Langer is a former Professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at MIT Department of Chemical Engineering, Whitaker College of Health Sciences, Technology, and Management, and the Harvard MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University and a ScD in Chemical Engineering from MIT. Dr. Langer has been a member of CV Holdings Scientific Advisory Board since 1998 and member of SiO2 Medical Products Scientific Advisory Board.

Alexander Klibanov       Professor, MIT

Dr. Klibanov is a Novartis Professor of Chemistry and Bioengineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Klibanov works closely with pharmaceutical companies on the chemical stability of new drug compounds. Dr. Klibanov consults with SiO2 Medical Products, Inc. on the chemical composition and chemical compatibility of SiO2 Medical Products plasma coated, pre-filled syringes. He also reviews SiO2 Medical Products key patent filings on the plasma coating system. He holds an MS in Chemistry from Moscow University and a PhD in Chemical Enzymology from Moscow University. Dr. Klibanov has been a member of CV Holdings Scientific Advisory Board since 1998 and member of SiO2 Medical Products Scientific Advisory Board.

Glenn Fredrickson       Professor, University of California, Santa Barbara

A member of the CV Holdings LLC Scientific Advisory Board since 1999, Dr. Fredrickson is the Mitsubishi Professor of Chemical Engineering and Materials at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Fredrickson’s expertise is in the analysis and modeling of complex, multi-phase polymer systems. He reviews SiO2 Medical Products’ key patent filings on the plasma coating system. Dr. Fredrickson holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida, an MS in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University.

Carlo Pantano       Professor, Pennsylvania State University

Dr. Pantano holds the titles of Distinguished Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Director of the Materials Research Institute at the Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Pantano is a leading expert in glass research and materials characterization, with over 30 years’ experience in the field. Dr. Pantano holds a B.S. degree in Engineering Science from New Jersey Institute of Technology, as well as both ME and PhD degrees from the University of Florida. Dr. Pantano advises SiO2 Medical Products, Inc. with respect to glass research associated with PECVD coatings.

Steven J. Martin       Former Chief Scientist, Dow Chemical

Dr. Martin previously served as Chief Scientist of The Dow Chemical Company. In his thirty-two year tenure at Dow, Dr. Martin also led the invention and development of a new dielectric material used to fabricate ultra-high performance microprocessors, the development of the high-modulus and high-strength PBO fiber, and the development of the mullite-based diesel soot particulate exhaust filter. During his early years at Dow, Dr. Martin developed and applied analytical methods for the characterization of polymer systems and the elucidation of polymer structure-property relationships. Dr. Martin holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Jacob Israelachvili       Professor, University of California, Santa Barbara

Dr. Israelachvili is a Professor with joint appointments in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Materials Department, Materials Research Laboratory (MRL), and the Biomolecular Science & Engineering (BMSE) Program, University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Dr. Israelachvili received his B.A. and M.A in (Experimental) Physics from the University of Cambridge, England. He also carried out graduate and postgraduate research work there at the Surface Physics Department of the Cavendish Laboratory and received his PhD in 1972. His research interests are in the general area of intermolecular and intersurface forces in biological, complex fluid, and materials systems.

Matt Tirrell      Professor, University of Chicago

Dr. Tirrell is the founding Pritzker Director of the University of Chicago's new Institute for Molecular Engineering. Dr. Tirrell's expertise is in the measurement of surface properties of polymers, bringing microscopic measurements of intermolecular forces to bear on polymer surface problems. Dr. Tirrell assists SiO2 Medical Products, Inc. in understanding the plasma coating/plastic substrate interface. Dr. Tirrell was previously on the faculty of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Minnesota, where he served as head of the department from 1995 to 1999. He holds a BS Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University and a PhD in Polymer Science from the University of Massachusetts.

Geoffrey Slaff       Former Senior Vice President of Quality and Process and Product Engineering, Amgen

Member of the Operating Board of SiO2 Medical Products, Inc. and former Senior Vice President of Quality and Process and Product Engineering for Amgen. Dr. Slaff serves as a "voice of the customer" by identifying the critical testing and product performance attributes required by the pharmaceutical industry. He assesses the robustness of glass coating technology and the manufacturing process. He supports SiO2 Medical Products' efforts to develop its Quality System for PECVD-coated parenteral products by assisting with staffing key quality positions. Dr. Slaff holds a PhD in Biochemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

David Henton       Former Senior Scientist, Designated Thermoplastics Laboratory, Dow Chemical

Consultant to SiO2 Medical Products, Inc., Dr. Henton is the former Senior Scientist in the Designated Thermoplastics Laboratory for Dow Chemical. Dr. Henton assists SMP with preparation test protocols for long-term aging studies of SiO2 coated tubes, vials, and syringes. Dr. Henton holds a B.S. in Chemistry from University of Missouri, an M.S. in Organic Chemistry from University of Kansas, and a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Kansas.
